Identify what is being interrupted
Over a few working days, note when the street actually interferes. A brief morning delivery, continuous traffic and occasional loud events affect work differently. Record the task involved: reading, a telephone conversation or a meeting with an open microphone. This gives you more specific options than describing the room simply as noisy.
Try another position within the room if the furniture allows it. Compare a desk immediately beside the window with one further inside, while also considering daylight and access. If a quieter room is available at certain times, use it for particular conversations without necessarily moving the entire workstation permanently. A temporary conversation position may be enough for an occasional difficult call.
Separate calls from other work
Where possible, place particularly sensitive tasks in the quieter periods you have observed. Keep a suitable alternative task ready for unexpectedly noisy periods. This does not remove the sound, but it prevents every disturbance from creating another planning decision. Choose the alternative deliberately rather than allowing a brief interruption to send the whole day off course.
For calls, test the existing microphone and its position with another person. Mute it when you are not speaking if the meeting format permits. Advertised noise reduction is not a substitute for a test at the actual window-side desk. Also consider whether headphones still allow you to notice necessary signals and household arrangements; blocking more sound is not the only requirement in a shared home.
Include ventilation in the arrangement
A permanently closed window is not a complete workstation plan. Consider how regular ventilation fits around the day, perhaps between blocks of calls. Do not place heavy furniture so that reaching the window becomes a major operation. Where a ventilation system is installed, follow its operating guidance rather than assuming the window is the only relevant control.
Agree building changes to windows or the exterior with the owner and suitable specialists. Avoid improvised sealing that could interfere with operation or required air supply. For everyday organisation, first establish which combination of desk position, call timing and room changes works. Try that combination on an ordinary working day, rather than only during an unusually quiet weekend when the street presents a different situation.
